Join The New LoFi – Music & Media Contributors Wanted

Join The Team

16 years. Thousands of artists. One volunteer team. Want in?

We’re always looking for volunteer contributors to join The New LoFi. Roles include writing, photography, design, development, social media, video, SEO, and more across music, culture, and creative content. If you’re looking for hands-on experience, a real platform to build on, or mentorship opportunities — this is it.

About The New LoFi

The New LoFi started in 2010 as two designers in New York who loved music. Sixteen years later it’s still volunteer-run — a global community of writers, curators, photographers, and creators who cover music because they love it. We wrote about The Weeknd before anyone knew his name. We had Sturgill Simpson in our pages nearly three years before his Grammy. We covered Declan McKenna before Columbia signed him. We’ve sent contributors to Coachella, SXSW, Primavera Sound, Bestival, Field Day, and Secret Garden Party — on press passes.

As volunteers, nobody here is getting paid. We do this because we love music, music culture, creative culture, and the world that surrounds it. Because finding something great before anyone else does is one of the best feelings there is. If that sounds like you, keep reading.

We’re growing

We’re growing — new content, new channels, new products — and we’re looking for people who want to be part of it. We’re building beyond a blog — into a media platform, a label, and a content network, and a home for artists, creators, and culture. This is a chance to help shape what The New LoFi becomes next.

We’ve always been early on artists. That part isn’t changing.

Who we’re looking for

College student, recent grad, aspiring creator, or career changer — if you care about music and want to be part of something that’s growing, we’d like to hear from you.

We started in music, but we’re not limited to it. If you’re good at what you do, we’ll figure out where you fit.

We’re looking across music, culture, and creative media.

  • Writer — music reviews, artist profiles, interviews, columns
  • Photographer or videographer — live shows, festivals, sessions
  • Graphic designer or illustrator — editorial art, covers, visual identity
  • Web developer — WordPress, front-end, SEO, site performance
  • Social media creator — Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, YouTube
  • YouTube or TikTok personality — commentary, reviews, culture
  • SEO specialist — 16 years of archive waiting to be optimized
  • Playlist curator — you live in streaming rabbit holes
  • Podcast producer — we have a monthly mixtape series and growing
  • AI enthusiast — content, automation, tools, workflows
  • Newsletter or email marketer — owned audience is everything
  • Submissions coordinator — first ears on hundreds of tracks a month

What you get

  • Your own byline on a publication that’s been running since 2010
  • Mentorship and editorial guidance from experienced contributors
  • Press pass opportunities at festivals across the US and Europe
  • Early access to music before it’s released
  • Connections with artists, publicists, and the wider music industry
  • A platform to build your personal brand and following
  • Published work you can show a future employer
  • A chance to help build and shape a 16-year-old platform as it evolves into something bigger

A note on compensation

These are unpaid volunteer contributor roles. Like Wikipedia, we’re a community-driven independent media platform built entirely by volunteers — not a corporation. Our writers, editors, photographers, and team members are all here for the same reason you are. What we have instead of a paycheck is 16 years of credibility, press passes to festivals most people pay hundreds to attend, and a byline that means something in music and media.

Say Hello / Apply

To be considered for a role, write a short paragraph on what you do, what you want to build or be part of, along with a link to something you’ve made (portfolio, writing sample, video, etc.) and a 10-track Spotify playlist of what you’re listening to right now.

We review everything, but strong submissions move fast.
